Birthday dinner

All day yesterday I was teaching Portuguese ladies to make a little make-up.  After that I was at home an hour a half earlier for my special dinner.

I had a Japanese theme. My friend Ai-chan made of food preparation, she does catering service. She made with her friend Megumi - Tamago Egg, Ebi Shrimp, Futomaki Thick Roll, Kappa Cucumber Roll, Saba Mackerel, rolls with tuna paste, pickles, picked herbs, and snapper.  I do not know how long it took them to make three big plates and a small plate of sushi.  Definetely, they saved my time and were delicious!  Or like British says about food - beautiful, not just look but taste too.

I cooked teriyaki chicken with rice and boiled small eggs. Guests were delighted and I had great time.

Thank you Ai-chan for all of your effort.

Birthday Treat

When you are younger you want go wild on your birthday.  What happens when you are older and not excited much about your special day?  From time to time I have these days.  However, this year I am happy to celebrate my birthday quietly but not wildly.  It took me couple of days to think what I will do on my day.

This is what I have done.  I had manicure and pedicure and at the end treated myself with a box of chocolate.

Before that I was given breakfast in bed and a special present from my DH.  My two DDs kissed and wished me Happy Birthday!

At the end of day DD1 was telling to my DH that they have forgotten to make a cake.  So sweet of her.  Cake will arrive on Saturday evening.

Teddy bear bag

I love making bags, specially now for my two little darlings.  Here is the one that I made recently and DD1 delighted to have it.

The pattern is from Dorthe Jollmann's book called Patchwork Baren.  The book itself in German, if you know how to sew it you do not need always books in your own language.  This is the example.  Back in Mongolia, many years ago I used to buy magazines in German and Hungarian and made many things from those magazines.

The book has plenty of cute bags with teddy's faces.  You will find there back pack, cosmetic purse, quilt, pencil case, key holder, mobile purse, cushion, nappy changing mat, apron etc.  All of them with teddy bear faces.

Chic bag wall hanging

Ursula and I started making patchwork wall hangings using an applique method. It is a quite time consuming process: coping patterns, cutting, ironing and finally start sewing. After two hours work we had this result. Ursula started with this two cute bag appliques. Today on Facebook she already put almost finished wall hanging.

I made a wall hanging with three bags using my Japanese fabrics. Compared to Ursula I have not touched it since last Thursday.

Susan attached sashing to her wall hanging and it is ready to be sandwiched and quilted.

At the beginning of the morning Ann was struggling with her spiral quilt edges but finally she was on the truck and happy with the result.

Egypt's unrest

Last two weeks I have been glued to the BBC news just to hear what is happening in Egypt.  After two weeks Hosni Mubarak is still there and his people wants him out.  I guess it is hard to give away his 30 years old powers in two weeks.

A week ago I called my hairdresser to have a hair cut.  When I arrived at her place, her suitcase was at her door.  She was about to fly to Cairo to work but canceled her flight.

I have been waiting news from D.Bayarhuu, the Mongolian Ambassador to Egypt.  Today he sent me some photos of Egyptian revolution and here are few.

These are ATMs not far from the Mongolian Embassy in Cairo. Many Egyptians are fighting for democracy but few are fighting with ATM machines.
